So, you've decided to dive into the glamorous world of portrait sessions. Maybe it's for a killer LinkedIn profile pic, your oldest is a High School Senior or you need to update your Family pictures. But before you say "cheese," it's time to channel your inner Barbara Walters and fire away with questions for your photographer. Yes, I said questions – and no, you won't be ruining their artistic groove. Here's why it's not only okay but downright encouraged!
Avoiding a Paparazzi Surprise
Would you walk into a hair salon without telling the stylist what you want? Heck no! Same goes for your portrait session. Photographers are not mind readers (unless you count our ability to predict the perfect golden hour). Want a moody black-and-white masterpiece? Dreaming of a vibrant color explosion? Then let's hear about it! I want to capture you, not some generic cookie cutter version. Every client is different and YOUR images should reflect YOU.
Location, Location, Location
I am going to guess that you wouldn't schedule a hot air balloon ride if you're afraid of heights, right? Well, your photoshoot location matters just as much. If you have a favorite park, street, or cozy café that feels like "you," let me know. I'm not going to drag you into the woods if you'd rather sip a latte surrounded by funky wall art. And sometimes we can do things that you may not even know we can do in the studio. With advanced lighting techniques and computer skills I can even transport you to another world or time period.
Budget Banter
Money talk – it's not as awkward as discussing politics at Thanksgiving, promise. Lay it out on the table. Be transparent about your budget, and we can work together to make sure you get the most bang for your buck. There's no need to play a guessing game with your wallet. High quality portraiture is an investment, I get it. That is one reason why I have the Create A Collection system. Clients can literally create their own package of products. Together, we can find what products will suite your family's needs.
Wardrobe Woes? Say No More!
Let's tackle the age-old question: "What on earth should I wear?" Don't stress; I've got your back. Ask about wardrobe suggestions, themes, or color palettes that will make you pop. I have clients send me outfit pics all the time and ask "Which shirt goes better?" or "Does this dress go with this sweater and pants?" I'm here to help! And, if you're dead set on that neon jumpsuit, don't be shy – I'm here to make it work.
The Great Editing Debate
Are you #TeamNoFilter or #FilterMeUp? Whether you want minimal retouching or the full-blown Hollywood treatment, let us know. We're not here to Photoshop your personality away – our goal is to enhance, not erase.
The Timeline Tango
Time is money, honey! If you've got a tight schedule or a lunch date you can't miss, give us the deets. We'll work our magic within your time frame. We're not trying to keep you hostage – we want to capture your stunning self efficiently.
The Dreaded Poses... or Not
Posing can feel as awkward as a middle school dance, but it doesn't have to be. If you're not into dramatic poses or sultry stares, that's cool. Tell us what you're comfortable with, and we'll find poses that scream "you" without the cringe factor. But a word of warning, part of helping you look your best is posing you. You may feel awkward while being posed, but it is all for the best angle.
So, there you have it – why interrogating your photographer is not just acceptable but essential. We want you to leave the session with a smile as radiant as our lighting setup. Be open, be yourself, and let's create some picture-perfect memories together!
Say cheese – or don't. I'm not going to make you;)
